In April, the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) awarded Derek E. Villanueva first place in 2009's Mail-in Winners for his editorial cartoon submission.
Derek happens to be one of many cartoonists and graphic designer attending Los Angeles City College's Journalism program.
The current West Hollywood resident placed third place in 2008 for his depiction of then, presidential contender Hillary R. Clinton's defeat to the White House, called "The Defeat of the Clinton Machine."
